2 houses for Saurabh (father) and Shyamal (son) are in adjacent 1000 sq.m. lots in a plotted development on the outskirts of Ahmedabad. (I had designed Saurabh Shodhan House for them in 1972) This area was used for making bricks and was 1.5 m below road level. Others were filling up their plots, but we didn’t fill Shyamal’s, whilst filling Saurabh’s and keeping them connected at the back - to have contours in their gardens – so desirable in flat Ahmedabad. Saurabh’s house is ground+1 load-bearing brick, Shyamal’s is lower ground+2 exposed steel structure – both houses have green, coated sheet sloping roofs.
