Keen to do housing, we felt the route was through developers and not institutions. Developers were wary of architects - notorious for cost over-runs and design changes. My friends at H. K. Construction were persuaded to give us this project. Our objective was to give a house for the price of an apartment - just 1 km further from the city centre. We chose the row house form with the inward looking open-space of an Ahmedabad 'pol' - with the addition of private open spaces at front and back. Its fully paved or landscaped exterior spaces and swimming pool were a first in Ahmedabad.
