The Practice

Being trained in the 1950’s under the International Style, ornament was taboo and my education gave me no understanding of it: buildings had to be sleek and stark and titillating to the intellect. But these buildings left me cold. I found that the buildings I liked were 100 years old! You felt great when you saw them or were inside them. I have been trying to design buildings which people feel good in. Buildings that are simple and unobtrusive. Buildings in ‘repose’. I have been greatly influenced by the book 'A Pattern Language' by Christopher Alexander - Kamal Mangaldas
