Nimish Vasa House; Ahmedabad; 1989-95
This is one of the two houses for two brothers on an L-shaped site. A lake was made at the meeting of the 2 legs of the L, and the 2 houses were placed at the ends - so that both could have a common garden meeting at the lake but the houses could not see each other. Nimish's house was naturally at an elevation of 2.5m so Rajan's house was raised to the same level enabling terrace gardens leading to the lake. The two houses are completely different - whilst Nimish's is 'modernistic' with white plastered walls, Rajan's is more traditional with stone cladding.
